NZ MOA BIRD

The Bird Taller Than Humans — New Zealand’s Lost Giant Moa
Before humans arrived, New Zealand was home to the Giant Moa — a bird standing up to 12 feet tall, weighing 500 pounds, and completely flightless.
They vanished around 1400 AD after being hunted to extinction, leaving only fossils and legends behind — a shadow of a time when birds ruled the land.
💡 Fun Fact: Moas were so big that eagles evolved to prey on them — including the now-extinct Haast’s eagle, the largest raptor ever known.

Māori (Māori: [ˈmaːɔɾi] are the indigenous Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand. Māori originated with settlers from East Polynesia, who arrived in New Zealand in several waves of canoe voyages between roughly 1320 and 1350.

Over several centuries in isolation, these settlers developed a distinct culture, whose language, mythology, crafts, and performing arts evolved independently from those of other eastern Polynesian cultures.

Some early Māori moved to the Chatham Islands, where their descendants became New Zealand's other indigenous Polynesian ethnic group, the Moriori
